You may request a Cal 1 Card replacement if:
- your card was lost or stolen
- your card was damaged
- you changed your legal and/or chosen/lived name
- you had a drastic change in appearance
- your card was issued prior to July 1, 2021 and you need access to Helen Diller Anchor House or xučyun ruwway Apartments
Steps for Replacing a Lost or Stolen Cal 1 Card
1. Report or deactivate a lost or stolen Cal 1 Card
You are solely responsible for reporting or deactivating a lost or stolen Cal 1 Card.
Report/deactivate your card in one of three ways:
- Log into your Cal 1 Card account online and select the “Report & Deactivate Lost Card” link
- Call 1.866.2UCBCARD
- Visit the Cal 1 Card Office in person
If you have card-key access to a facility on campus, report the lost/stolen card immediately to your card-key administrator or building manager so that they may deactivate the access authorizations on the card.
Note: Once you have reported the lost or stolen card, you assume no further liability for any unauthorized use.
If you find your lost Cal 1 Card before obtaining a replacement, but after reporting it as being lost and deactivating it, you may reactivate it in one of three ways:
- Login to your Cal 1 Card account online and select the “Reactivate Card” link
- by Calling 1.866.2UCBCARD
- by Visiting the Cal 1 Card Office in person
2. Pay the card replacement fee
There is a $35 nonrefundable replacement fee for all lost cards.
If your card was stolen, the fee may be waived as long as you present the corresponding police report or case number at the time of requesting the replacement card. If you do not intend on filing a police report or have not yet done so at the time of requesting the replacement card, the nonrefundable replacement fee will apply.
For undergraduate and graduate students, the fee will be billed to your student billing account. Please note that you must complete and submit the electronic request form accepting the $35 lost card replacement fee as follows in advance of receiving the replacement card:
- Login to your Cal 1 Card account
- Select the “Pay Lost Card Replacement Fee” link
- Select the embedded “Online Request Portal” link for Undergraduate and Graduate students
- Follow the prompts from there and submit the form
For employees, visiting Summer Sessions students, and UC Berkeley Extension Concurrent Enrollment students, the $35 lost card replacement fee must be paid via one of the following options in advance of receiving the replacement card:
- Credit Card or Bank Card
- Log into your Cal 1 Card account.
- Select the “Pay Lost Card Replacement Fee” link
- Select the embedded “Online Payment Portal” link for Employees and Visiting / Concurrent Enrollment students
- Follow the prompts from there to enter your credit card or bank card information
- Cash or Check
- Pay the nonrefundable $35 fee and get a payment receipt at the Student Affairs Cashier’s Office:
- Location: 2610 Channing Way (2nd floor)
- Office Hours: Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Provide your ID number upon arrival
- Pay the nonrefundable $35 fee and get a payment receipt at the Student Affairs Cashier’s Office:
For Affiliates, the fee will be billed to the sponsoring departments.
3. Obtain Your Replacement Card
Obtain a replacement Cal 1 Card in one of two ways:
Same-Day/Walk-In Service, Virtual Kiosk Line
The advantage of the kiosk line is being able to visit the office at your convenience and not at a specific appointment time.
There are three ways to join the virtual kiosk line.
If you have a laptop or handheld device as well as a domestic mobile phone number, you may join by:
- Clicking on the following button.

OR
- Scanning the QR code available on signage outside of the Cal 1 Card Office location.
If you do not have a laptop or handheld device and/or also do not have a domestic mobile phone number, you may join by:
- Using a touch-screen sign-in kiosk, located at Sproul Hall, north entrance of the first floor (look for the yellow Cal 1 Card flag).
Appointment Scheduling with the Cal 1 Card Office (Optional)
The advantage of securing a specific appointment time slot is that you won’t have to wait a long time during peak card production periods.
- Appointments are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- To make an appointment, click on the following button:

- All appointments will be for in-person services at the Cal 1 Card office at your scheduled appointment time.
- Available appointment time slots will become visible between 24 hours to 2 weeks from the date/time that a search is performed.
- During peak production periods (July through September), there may be very few (if any) available appointments..
- If the need for card issuance is urgent and you are unable to wait for the next available appointment date/time, please join the virtual kiosk line and await your turn.
4. Regain Access Authorizations
If applicable, please contact your card-key administrator to regain facility access.
Steps for Replacing a Damaged Card
If you suspect that your card is damaged, please bring it to the Cal 1 Card office so that we may perform a functionality assessment.
If the assessment confirms that the card is damaged, you will receive a free replacement card.
If the assessment confirms that the card appears to be fully functional, you will receive information on the next steps for further assistance regarding the specific type(s) of card functionality problem(s).
A $35 nonrefundable replacement fee will apply if you do not have the damaged card with you at the time of requesting the replacement card.
Steps for Replacing a Card because of a Name Change
The process for getting a replacement Cal 1 Card with a new name differs depending on your campus affiliation.
For students
- Visit this Office of the Registrar page for more information on how to submit a Legal or Chosen / Lived Name change and follow the corresponding instructions.
Note: Chosen / Lived Names will be printed on the Cal 1 Card instead of Legal Names.
- Login to your Cal 1 Card account to check on the status of the name change in the Cal 1 Card production system. Once the new name is reflected therein, you may go to the Cal 1 Card Office to get the replacement Cal 1 Card:
Note: The Legal Name change process may take several work days before the name is updated in the Student Information Systems database and then 1 – 2 additional days to be imported to the Cal 1 Card production system. The Chosen / Lived Name change process will be quicker and is generally imported to the Cal 1 Card production system within 2 days.
Note: Please bring your previously issued Cal 1 Card with the old name for an even exchange, free of charge. If you do not, a $35 lost card replacement fee will apply.
For employees/affiliates
- Login to your UCPath account
- Select “Edit Profile”
- Select “Personal Information”
- Select “Legal Name / Name”
- Enter your new “Legal Name” or (Chosen / Lived) “Name”
Note: Chosen / Lived Names will be printed on the Cal 1 Card instead of Legal Names.
Note: The Legal Name change process may take several work days before the name is updated in the UCPath database and then 1 – 2 additional days to be imported to the Cal 1 Card production system. The (Chosen / Lived) Name change process will be quicker and is generally imported to the Cal 1 Card production system within 2 days.

Steps for Replacing a Card Issued Prior to July 1, 2021 (for those who need access to Helen Diller Anchor House or xučyun ruwway Apartments only)
If your card was issued prior to July 1, 2021 and you need access to Helen Diller Anchor House or xučyun ruwway Apartments you are eligible for a new Cal 1 Card. You simply need to present your old Cal 1 Card to the Cal 1 Card office and the $35 replacement fee will be waived.
A $35 nonrefundable replacement fee will apply if you do not have the old card with you at the time of requesting the replacement card.
