Bear Transit and Class Pass/EasyPass

Please be advised that a Cal 1 Card is required to ride Bear Transit free of charge as well as in order to obtain a new or replacement EasyPass.

Bear Transit

Bear Transit is UC Berkeley’s shuttle system, servicing the campus and vicinity.  Bear Transit provides convenient transportation between campus, Downtown Berkeley BART, parking lots, Clark Kerr campus, the Hill area, residence halls, Richmond Field Station (RFS) and Campus Shared Services on 4th Street. More campus shuttles information is available on Parking and Transportation (https://pt.berkeley.edu/transportation-options/campus-shuttles).

Class Pass / EasyPass for Students

Prior to Fall 2016, a Class Pass sticker was affixed onto each eligible student’s Cal 1 Card for accessing unlimited bus ridership privileges on AC Transit buses. Beginning in Fall 2016, students were instead issued an AC Transit EasyPass Clipper card which was loaded with an electronic Class Pass.  The primary benefit of the transition from the Class Pass sticker to the electronic Class Pass is that continuing students will be able to access their ridership privileges without having to stand in long lines each semester to obtain a new sticker. The EasyPass Clipper card will also allow students to load cash value to pay for BART rides and other transit passes in the Bay Area (e.g. Muni, etc.).

The initial AC Transit EasyPass Clipper card is issued at the Cal 1 Card office (https://cal1card.berkeley.edu/get-a-cal-1-card/) or at assigned remote locations (e.g. orientation check-ins) by authorized staff.  Eligible students will be able to obtain the EasyPass during their initial academic term or anytime thereafter as long as they are still registered in an eligible student category.

ATTENTION: Taking custody of the AC Transit EasyPass Clipper card constitutes acceptance of the corresponding Clipper Cardholder Agreement and Clipper Card Privacy Policy.

Replacements for lost or stolen EasyPass Clipper cards are issued at Parking and Transportation (https://pt.berkeley.edu/contact-us).
